A total budget around ₹15-20 lakh stretches furthest at Germany's (and some EU) low/no-tuition PUBLIC universities; the US, UK, Canada and Australia usually need a larger budget OR a scholarship + education loan. Public universities in Europe are the budget-friendly route; the US/UK are premium. Always verify current fees on the university's own page.

University Reality Index

Before you pay any agent, check the school against an objective, citable signal — the national register, franchise/pathway status, paid "rankings", or illegal job/PR guarantees.

Australia	CRICOS + TEQSA — open	Every provider legally allowed to teach international students is on CRICOS; higher-ed is accredited by TEQSA. If a 'university' isn't on CRICOS, walk away.
Canada	Designated Learning Institutions (DLI) — open	Only DLI-listed institutions can host study-permit students. Check the DLI number on the official IRCC list.
United Kingdom	Office for Students (OfS) + student sponsor register — open	Recognised bodies are on the OfS register; only licensed student sponsors can issue a CAS for a visa.
India (recognition of the degree back home)	UGC Equivalence Regulations 2025 — open	From April 2025 the UGC (not AIU) grants equivalence. The foreign institution must be recognised by its OWN country's authority; FRANCHISE arrangements are NOT recognised, and some professional degrees (medicine, law, architecture) need their own council's nod.
New Zealand	NZQA — open	The New Zealand Qualifications Authority lists recognised education providers and qualifications. If a provider isn't recognised by NZQA/Universities NZ, be cautious.
Singapore	CPE / SkillsFuture (EduTrust) — open	Private education institutions must be CPE-registered with EduTrust certification; the six autonomous universities (NUS, NTU, SMU, SUTD, SIT, SUSS) are government-established. Check EduTrust status for private colleges.
Sweden	UHR / universityadmissions.se — open	Accredited programmes are listed on the national admissions portal; UKÄ is the quality-assurance authority. If a 'university' isn't there, question it.
Italy	MUR / CIMEA — open	The Italian Ministry of University lists accredited universities; CIMEA verifies recognition of foreign and Italian degrees.
India (for MBBS abroad)	NMC + WDOMS — open	To practise medicine in India, the foreign medical university MUST be listed by the National Medical Commission AND in the World Directory of Medical Schools (WDOMS). If it isn't on both, the degree will not be recognised in India.

Check it yourself — 60-second test

Is the institution on its country's official register (CRICOS / DLI / OfS / national accreditor)?
Is it a full university, or a 'pathway'/franchise college marketed as one?
Is the cited ranking from QS / THE / ARWU, or a pay-to-list directory?
Will the degree get UGC equivalence in India (home-country recognised, not franchise, not an excluded professional course)?
Are post-study-work rights a real government policy, or a 'guaranteed PR/job' promise (which no agent can legally give)?
For MBBS abroad: is the university on the NMC list AND the WDOMS directory — and did you qualify NEET-UG in your year of admission?
Does any agent 'guarantee' a seat, PR, or a job? A guarantee is a red flag — genuine admissions and immigration never guarantee outcomes.

Marketing claim vs. verifiable reality

✅ Claim holds

“World top university”

Agent says: “Top-ranked, globally recognised.”

Reality: Claim holds up: verifiable QS/THE top-band placement, accredited, degree recognised in India. Fair to call it a top university.

⚠️ Overhyped

“Elite / prestigious”

Agent says: “Elite institution, among the best.”

Reality: Legitimate and recognised — a fine, safe choice — but the 'elite' framing sets wrong expectations. Good school, inflated label.

⛔ Red flag

“Top global university, guaranteed PR + job” (pathway/franchise pattern)

Agent says: “World-class, top-ranked, guaranteed PR & job after graduation.”

Reality: Three objective fails: (1) not a stand-alone registered university (pathway/franchise) — so UGC won't grant equivalence; (2) the 'ranking' is a pay-to-list directory, not QS/THE; (3) no agent can legally guarantee PR or a job. Confirm register status before paying a rupee.

⛔ Red flag

“Guaranteed MBBS seat abroad — no NEET, degree valid in India”

Agent says: “Skip NEET, pay us, and you'll be a doctor in India.”

Reality: False and dangerous. NMC's own study-abroad page states that Indians taking admission abroad after May 2018 must “mandatorily qualify” NEET-UG, and that the NEET result “shall deem to be treated as the Eligibility Certificate” (valid three years) — so there is no lawful route that skips NEET. The degree is not automatically valid here either: under the Screening Test Regulations an Indian citizen with a foreign primary medical qualification must qualify the prescribed screening test before provisional or permanent registration, needs 50% in each paper, and the qualification itself must be listed in the World Directory or confirmed as recognised by the Indian Embassy. And NMC says plainly that it “does not endorse any list of Foreign Medical Institutions/Universities” — so nobody can sell you an “NMC-approved” college.

⛔ Red flag

“Guaranteed PR or a guaranteed job after you graduate”

Agent says: “100% placement and PR guaranteed.”

Reality: No country or honest agent guarantees PR or a job. Post-study work is a time-limited permit to look for work; PR depends on points, salary and policies that change often. Treat any 'guarantee' as a red flag.

⚠️ Overhyped

“Our pathway/foundation program = direct admission to a top university”

Agent says: “Join our foundation and you're basically into the top university.”

Reality: A pathway is a preparatory course run by a private partner. It may improve your chances but is not the university itself and does not guarantee entry to the flagship degree. Confirm exactly which institution awards your final degree and that it is on the national register.
